on reading

it's been more than a month since i wrote the first (and until now, only) blog post of this website. my pc had a manic episode of some sort where the hard drive worked at 100% capacity for at least a week, it's mainly over now (although i still can't play any videogames that arent web-based) so i felt like writing a new piece for whoever may roam by my website

after finishing The Autumn Of The Patriarch, by Gabriel García Márquez, my yearly reading list crossed the 50-book mark for the first time ever. i don't think i will ever read as much as i have this year, which is somehow a great relief because i've been worrying about not really getting everything out of every book i´ve read. there have been many which left a big impression on me, but several feel like a distant memory already.

some of the highligths of this year were One Hundred Years of Solitude and Ficciones, which quickly have become two of my favourite books ever, but i also greatly enjoyed A Confederacy of Dunces, Gracias Por El Fuego and The Catcher in The Rye (it's an incel book, but a good one). as for books i didn't quite like you have The Trial, The Book Of Sand and surprisingly for me, The Autumn Of The Patriarch (it wasn't bad, i don't think it's fair to say that there are bad books per se, but i had a very hard time reading it and i didn't feel like it was worth it at the end

my future reads are, for now, On The Road, Diario de la Guerra del Cerdo, A Universal History of Infamy and Dr. Brodie's Report. i'll probably add something else to the list as soon as i go to the library again, which is from where i get to read most of my books (well, that and libgen).

i think next year i'll attempt to read a bit less books, but compensate by reading longer titles (say, Ulysses, War and Peace, etc), it seems like an enjoyable challenge after reading practically two books a year, i don't know if i will be able to pull it off though, i don't think i have the patience to stick to a 1000 page book, specially if i don't like it. i'll see what i can do.
