on the 24th of november, uruguay had the second round of their presidential elections
first of all: it's FINALLY fucking over. this campaign was so fucking long, it feels like i've been seeing the candidate's faces for longer than they've been relevant in this country.
the left won, as i wanted AND expected. on the october blog i said how the leftist candidate was not exactly amazing: i retract. he's cool and he actually learned to speak like a normal human being without stumbling every four words, which is good for a president. i don't love the idea of being completely convinced by a politician, because i don't want to become a fanatic of a random dude that just happens to be president, but i can't help it, he just has cool vibes
a lot of people with no idea about how this country works said that since a leftist won we will immediatly become cuba or venezuela or argentina or whatever shithole they felt like namedropping; for those who don't know, uruguay has been ruled by the left for 15 years, between 2005 and 2020, most people agree the governments in that era were good, and objectively the country grew a ton between those years. it's also worth mentioning that the candidate that won has no relation in his ideology at all with the more extremist leftist leaders in south america; he's a social democrat AT MOST.
of course, i can't immediatly say that his government will be amazing, or that he will lead us to a economical crisis, i do not have a crystal ball yet. all that i can say is that i'm extremely hopeful about whatever may come up next, and that i'm happy the dumbasses that were governing the country for the last 4 years are finally leaving office, at least until 2030.
with love, pon.
