tomorrow is a new election day in the glorious republic of uruwhy. this one is being quite weird because it looks like it will be an leftist win but also no one seems to care, it's like there's not an election less than 24 hours away. the streets are dead, no party seems like they are movilizing themselves and the campaign feels like it never started in the first place.
i'm hoping that the left wins, their candidate (Yamandú Orsi) is not exactly amazing (VERY center with a slight left lean) but it's better than anything the right has to offer. one of the right candidates (Andrés Ojeda) made a campaign solely on him being good-looking and nice to animals which all came tumbling down on the last week (his girlfriend is a hunter). another candidate (Álvaro Delgado) is a shell for the actual president with no actual personality. the other candidates are all irrelevant, many of them are also fucking insane
we'll probably also have a second round between Orsi and either Delgado or Ojeda, which probably will end on a left win anyway, so it all feels kind of unnecessary. hopefully the left wins the senate and the house of representatives because if not it will be a government where nothing will be achieved, which obviously sucks
uruguay has a great democratic tradition and election day is always a charm to see, even though this one seems like it will feel like any other day. we'll see what will happen
love, pon
PD: i'll probably move all the blogs to zonelets soon, but idk if it will actually make things easier
