on my CD collection

it's been a while

i've been collecting physical media since 2017 i believe? at least that's when i got my first CDs, if i recall correctly,it was a, quite frankly, boring compilation of a musical genre called murga which more likely than not means nothing if you aren't from uruguay, don't know about uruguayan or south american music or haven't been around me for more than one hour in the past 10 years, it's a genre i love and not many people from outside the country know (i should make a post about it someday, it's the kind of stuff i could write about for several paragraphs) but nevertheless. the compilation is quite basic but i played the SHIT out of it for like 3 years on my dusty playstation 2 which has now long succumbed to god knows what technological illness

after that, i've been buying or asking for CDs quite constantly over the last 8 years or so, last time i checked my collection was around 200 CDs? it has a lot of whatever the equivalent of shovelware is for music though (a lot of bad/messy compilations which i haven't played in a long while, and many murga CDs of shows i'm frankly not that fond of but were cheap so i had to grab them for the lols basically. the stuff i mostly play nowadays is about a third of it, a lot of rock music (the one i'm playing the most rn is

i have a few full discographies (sui generis' is one i feel particularly happy about) and some that are basically full in the sense that i have almost everything good they made (jaime roos, which is an uruguayan musical legend who i should also write about here someday), my main annoyance with myself is still not having all the beatles albums in the 1987 remastered editions which are BY FAR the most aesthetically pleasing (and also the cheapest). also, not having oasis' definitely maybe or charly garcĂa's clics modernos is a pain in the ass for my pride, both of those feel like albums i should've gotten a long time ago and yet i haven't. in fact, there are a few blindspots on my collection: no almendra or virus which have been long time faves, several albums which i could've bought several times and passed on them (for example, magical mystery tour, signos by soda stereo, disintegration by the cure which is the one im chasing the most right now) and barely anything by the beatles on their solo careers which is a huge miss for me, i feel like i should have EVERYTHING paul mccartney did in his life and yet i only have chaos and creation in the backyard. also, a lot of newer releases that i can't get because they're shit ass expensive, like songs of a lost world or imaginal disk by magdalena bay

there's a few crowning jewels to say it in some way on my collection, the main one is a murga album (see how it all comes together in the end?) which is both one of the best things in the genre in my opinion and also a pain in the ass to get, it's called un barrio de pelicula by contrafarsa and it's stellar, great way to check if the genre is for you or not

i would like to make a page someday cataloguing my collection (i was inspired to write this blogpost after seeing the great collection page over at roboticoperatingbuddy, which you've probably seen by now) but for now i think this suffices, just in case someone is very interested i leave you with a few pictures of it, the first picture has most of the uninteresting stuff while the last two have the CDs i listen to regularly. this is not really representative of my complete musical taste, but it's a generous sample. if you really want to know more about my taste feel free to reach me or check my last.fm and rateyourmusic accounts, which can be found on the about me page.

do we know eachother?, pon.
